Leg warmers have come a long way from the cheaply made 80’s version. Now we have knitted leg warmers, up-cycled leg warmers made from sweaters, and so much more. There are many ways to wear your ultra cute legwarmers without looking like a flashdancer too! Wear them over leggings with a cute skirt, over skinny jeans and paired with ankle boots, pair with flats or pumps for a bit of zest to your style.

Monthly Handmade Style Guide

I am dedicating this month to up-cycled items! I cannot stress how important it is that we support eco-conscious and green designers. It is not just because  up-cycled and re-purposed items are so unique, and amazing; because they are! This is more about reducing what we put in the landfill and reusing as much as possible.

According to the EPA almost 13.1 million tons of textiles are thrown away every year. Only 15% of which (roughly 2 million tons) are recovered for reuse or recycling. It’s gotten so bad that it’s estimated that the average American throws away 65 pounds of textiles every year and that nearly 48% of this is perfectly reusable. Did you know that textiles are the 5th largest contributor to CO2 emissions in the United States? Just one pound of textiles can produce as much as 7 pounds of CO2 emissions into our atmosphere; that gives us a lot to think about.  Let’s share some awesome up-cycled articles of clothing. Start getting excited, because anther amazing reason to support up-cycled designers is the uniqueness of the item you are getting! One of a kind, nothing else like it in the world!

Love, Love , Love up-cycled tees! So many think “Hey, I have this old tee I do not want, I will just toss it(don’t!) or donate it. Remember, donation centers do not take EVERYTHING , so how about offering it a seamstress you may know, or washing it and posting it(with other shirts) on a public sell site like craigslist? If all else fails just donate it, but please do not throw it out!

Summer is a GREAT season to rock your up-cycled looks and there are so many variations on clothing when it comes to re-purposed and refashioned wear.

Monthly style guide-Mixing color

Mixing color is more common nowadays than it used to be. Having the  fearlessness too be yourself shows a fierce confidence that we all deserve!

The  trick to mixing colors is starting with  colors that are flattering on you.

You can use contrasting colors, as long as the prints have a color in common. Contrast in fashion is always fun!

Thakoon photos via Vogue.co.uk

It’s ok to mix the same style of patterns in one outfit, but only if it’s in small doses, and only if you choose different scales of the pattern. Do not mix all large prints, or all small prints; do a mix of small/medium/large.

A good rule of thumb to follow for mixing patterns in fashion is to never let your patterns compete with each other; and most of all  have fun! Do not be afraid to be yourself and let that inner, colorful being come out.

Monthly style guide

I like gloves. A lot. Really. Seriously.  A LOT. Ok ,you get it 🙂

They are such a needed accessory that works at any time of year, and  they come in lightweight to heavy form. There are even BREAD GLOVES!OK, I do not know if these are legit or not, but let’s be real; if they are I’d totally eat them. I mean, wear them.I mean eat them.

It is fall; time for sweaters, hot cocoa, and the continued “Pumpkin Spice” obsession, and time for gloves! Now, I, personally love fingerless gloves. This allows our hands and arms to stay warm but to still perform functional tasks like: texting, typing, grocery shopping, or operating the TV remote!

Gloves date back to ancient societies, dating as far back as the 10th century.Gloves were made of fine silks sewn by hand with ornate beading and pearls. These breathtaking gloves were worn by royalty, bishops, and high ranking women and men.Gloves have always had the appearance of just an accessory, but actually have a long history of being associated with fascinating practices, rituals and customs. This is only a small peek into the history of gloves!

Glove have come a long way, and the styles have certainly changed over the years; but the styles are timeless, and there is NO wrong glove to wear!

Regardless of your style, there are a plethora of glove styles to choose from ;fingerless, mittens, full finger, recycled, upcycled, long , short, knitted, crocheted, and more!As always , I am a huge advocate of supporting handmade. A lot of love, care, detail, and effort goes into handmade. Not only are you helping to contribute to establishing a new economic model, but  If you are a person who values the quality of an item more than the price then you already know that handmade items are far superior to mass produced items. When thinking quality; go handmade.

Monthly Style Guide-Bright colors and nerdy bowties

Oh how I love fall and it is so close I can taste it! Pumpkin spice lattes, cozy sweaters, rain, and soft blankets.

Hello-September-Tumblr-3

I love deep oranges and reds, and really feel they will always remain trending colors as the years go by. So today I am dedicating this style guide to the rich colors of fall that I expect to see on the streets. Lets start with chunky cowls; a staple in any woman’s wardrobe! Not only do we get to stay warm, but we get to be stylish too. Check out this amazing , bright orange infinity cowl by “YokieB” on Etsy. You can find this item and more in their shop @ https://www.etsy.com/shop/yokieB

Crochet Infinity Scarf Chunky Orange Cowl

Let’s move on to menswear. I hate to leave men out of the mix, because they deserve to keep up with the fashionable times as well! I have always loved bright colors on men, and really wish they wore more of it. The blacks, blues and browns need to be set to the wayside for a while, and men need to dig into the rich color of fall this year!

I really love it when men wear bow-ties; they are fun, cute, nerdy, and add a pop of color to an otherwise dull outfit. I adore these bowties from Etsy shop “LeviandLilly”. I particularly love this bowtie below; It fits that fun, cute and nerdy feel. You can find their shop @ https://www.etsy.com/shop/LeviandLily:
