Beyond the shroud of mystery that surrounds All Hallows Eve, my favorite part of Halloween is being able to transform myself into whatever character I choose, and prance around all night reveling in my Halloween joy.  There is also other delights that tickle my fancy such as: candy, candy, candy……oh, did I say candy? Don’t forget about haunted houses and pumpkin mazes; I do love a good fright! I also delight in watching some of my favorite cheesy Halloween classics such as : Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Hocus Pocus and so much more.

Ok….Maybe we won’t  go THAT far, but you will still get some compliments on your creativity.

2.) Cereal Killer- Ok, it is a bit of an oldie, but still a goody. Buy some small, or one large cereal box. Wear a plain color shirt(I think white is best as it will show off all the fake blood). Use duct tape so the boxes will stick, and use plastic picnic knives to poke through the box(es). Sprinkle some fake blood all over you(easily obtainable at the Halloween store) and wala; you  have one killer look!

DIY Project Sharing- Get Patriotic

I really used to detest Forth of July; it meant spending money to blow stuff up, or drive to an overcrowded field to watch things being blown up and spending hours waiting for it to happen, while freezing(hey, it gets COLD in Oregon!)

Well, now it is growing on me like a positive fungus. yay! My husband’s birthday is July 5th, so he has always enjoyed celebrating the fourth. And my step-kids love blowing things up; I mean what kid doesn’t? I am still a bit of a scrooge when it comes to spending a lot of money on fireworks, but I am starting to enjoy the BBQ’s, the red, white and blue everywhere, and watching the pretty spark-lies in the sky.

Well, I found a wonderful tutorial video on making your very own patriotic shorts!  This tutorial is brought to you by “Mountain Girl Clothing” and you can find their tutorial here:

——> https://vimeo.com/131011384

You will need :

Jean shorts

Duct Tape

red and blue spray paint

stars cut out from cardboard

lace, ribbon or any bits to sew on after

Here are some easy to follow written  instructions :

Grab a pair of denim shorts you are ready to decorate. Put duct tape everywhere you DON’T want to be spray painted. Then tape horizontal strips on one side of your short(the red spray paint will be sprayed in between the tape strips to create lines ). Tape stars on other side of  your shorts , spray blue all over; when you  remove the stars, they will show up on your shorts. Allow to dry for one hour. Then sew on any fun bits of lace to spruce up your shorts, or if needles and your hands are not 2 things that mesh well,  just leave the way they are!

Have fun, and be sure to watch “Mountain Girl Clothing’s ” video; I ADORE their style!

DIY- 10 minute sugar scrub

I LOVE sugar scrub. It is an excellent exfoliant AND moisturizer, and has ingredients that most of us can find right in our kitchen cupboards. Also, this recipe is SO easy, a child could make it. No, for realsies my 13 year old daughter made some in her after school program! This scrub should only take you about 10 minutes, now THAT is easy!

Making scrubs is not only great to treat yourself and the family, but are so wonderful as gifts. Whether you need an inexpensive holiday, or a reason to treat a special friend, this is a great DIY! Now, just a few notes about the materials below: You do not HAVE to use essential oil, but I highly recommend it. Essential oils have many different healing effects mentally, physically, and emotionally, and they smell great! Also coconut oil as your base moisturizer is my top choice for a deep moisturizer, and it is an edible oil so it is non-toxic.Ok, let’s start !

  • 1/2 cup organic coconut
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (you can use up to 1/2 cup if you want your scrub to have a more coarse, sand-like texture)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Lavender essential oil (about 25 drops)
  • Jar(I recommend glass only. essential oils will last longer)
  • Free printable label (optional)

  1. Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl.  (Do not heat the coconut oil, as it will dissolve the sugar)
  2. Mix slowly, but thoroughly, then put into your chosen glass container.
  3. 3.) Affix chosen label, or decoration to top of jar. You can also use some twine and paper with a hole punched through to make a hanging label, just tie around top of jar!

To Use:

Massage gently onto face, hands, arms or legs for 30 seconds while in shower. Remember , a little goes a long way so use sparingly! Do not put on feet as you may fall in the shower. I hope you had fun with my DIY, be sure to send photos, and let me know all the fun scents you made, wahoo!

Weekly DIY- Halloween Poison bottles

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday; Not only do I love creating and sewing something amazing, but I adore helping my children dress up, carve pumpkins, and whip up some amazing spooky DIY projects!

This weeks DIY is amazing, and  comes to you courtesy of  ’36th Avenue.com and can be found by going to this link: http://www.the36thavenue.com/diy-halloween-poison-bottles/

*Photo is property of 36th avenue.com*

I really love this project because there is so much that you can do with these fun and bewitching bottles. Use them to decorate your bathroom, bedroom, living room; or even make them as creepy chic gifts for your friends! These are SO easy to make, and an inexpensive way to have a fun project with the kids!

Supplies needed  :

 art glass stain

Chalkboard Paint

Stickers for bottles

Extras :

Fake cobwebs

Tutorial :

Wash and dry your bottles; this insures your glass stain will stick. You can purchase most of these supplies at Michael’s, craft warehouse, etc.

Stain the inside of jars with the black transparent glass stain; repeat until it is as dark as you wish.Once dry, use chalkboard paint to paint bottles.

Use your stickers you purchased to put on front; I also recommend some glitter, and maybe some fake cobwebs for added spookiness!

Weekly DIY- Rainbow fan

Summer is coming. And what better way to cool off than this DIY Rainbow Fan? This easy peasy project is super fun to do with the kids, and easy to gaze at for hours! Then, of course there is always the fun of talking into the fan: Luke, I am your faaaatherrrr”. Who doesn’t love that occupant of time 🙂

Here are directions for your super easy fan!

1) Color the Fan Blades : This is the only work you have to do and is the most important part.Buy whatever fabulous colors you want in your amazing new fan. Be sure to buy 5 colors, as there are 5 blades. I truly recommend using pastels, or lighter colors, darker colors may not give you the bright rainbow effect you want.

2) Wash your blades with warm soapy water and dry completely before painting. Paint each blade, front and back. Be aware if you only want to do the front, that is ok! No rules here!; let it dry to see if you want another coat. No need for fancy designs, as you will not see those when the blades are turning, but if you feel like going crazy, no one will be here to stop you!

3) Rotate the Fan : After colors have dried up, connect your fan to power source and rotate the fan. You will now be amazed at the fun colors on your fan!
