The magic of spring is finally here

My magical spring line is finally here! I’ve worked hard on this line, and it embodies my vision of spring; bright colors, beautiful chaos, birds, fairies, bright suns and gentle moons, and so much more. This line is largely hand-stitched, hand embroidered, and carefully thought out.

I tend to stray from traditional sizing since much of my offerings are upcycled. I do however strive to offer an array of sizes to fit all you beautiful women! I put full measurements on all of my listings to help you find the best and most honest fit. Below is a sampling of what I have to offer in my spring line; visiting my website by clicking here to see all of my beauties that I am so very proud of making!

On The Runway

Last week I had the unique pleasure (thanks to my stunning husband) of attending “FashionNXT” runway show in Portland, OR which is the Portland version of New York Runway Week.

I felt exhilarated when I walked in; we had front row tickets and access to the VIP lounge. I got my hair done in an ultra cool faux hawk, and handmade an up-cycled vest; even though I was not showcasing my line and was just a guest, I felt it was important to dress the part, and show off who I was; after all someone might ask me for a card, right?

I am so lucky to have a husband that believes in me so much, and is so supportive. He truly believes in me and my goals, he is the best. Also, he is a fabulous photographer, so i got to sit back and inspect all the fashions while he snapped away.

The runway was stunning with designs from  swimwear, sporty, Japanese, to up-cycled t-shirt dresses (SQUEE). I really enjoyed the variety, it made me feel really hopeful for my own future line.

But to be honest, the most exciting part of the night was when I noticed that Seth Aaron Henderson (Winner of season 7 of Project Runway) was in attendance. No, I was not in awe SIMPLY because he had won a Project Runway season; I was in awe because he has been one of my favorite contestants on the history of Project Runway. His designs are unique, edgy, and oh so cool.  I was so nervous to meet him, but bravely introduced myself as a designer, asked for a selfie with him then gave him one of my cards. EEK!

I also had the immense pleasure of meeting the sweet and talented Sarah Donofrio, who is a current contest on Season 15 of Project runway. Her designs were the first to hit the runway, and I just LOVED them; they were colorful, fun, and fresh. Overall, this was an eye-opening experience for me; I am ready to start making my first true line and possibly enter it into fashionnxt to participate next year.

What does bohemian mean?

We see the word bohemian everywhere these days; it is a top tag on Instagram , it is used to describe clothing, feelings, and in general lifestyle. But what does bohemian REALLY mean?

Life, Love, Art, Heart Failure and Assorted Ramblings: What Does Bohemian Mean?:

This entry from wiki describes where the phrase originated from:

“Bohemianism is the practice of an unconventional lifestyle, often in the company of like-minded people, with few permanent ties, involving musical, artistic, or literary pursuits. In this context, Bohemians may be wanderers, adventurers, or vagabonds.

This use of the word bohemian first appeared in the English language in the nineteenth century to describe the non-traditional lifestyles of marginalized and impoverished artists, writers, journalists, musicians, and actors in major European cities.”

But what does “bohemian” mean to you? To me it is a person who maintains an artistic lifestyle and places  freedom of self-expression above all other desires.

Now, the term has become much more mainstream, and really is geared towards fashion for the folk that do not have either a deep understanding or care for the phrase and what it really embodies. Now, where you hear bohemian, you think” long flowy dresses, feathers in the hair, and fringe purses.”  And don’t get me wrong, I love the clothing style and feel that it helps retain the original spirit of revolt. The history behind it though is so much more rich and fascinating.

Being who you want, and maintaining your free spirit is really embodying the bohemian lifestyle. Expressing your creativity and living your life in a centered, and spiritual environment surrounding you is the embodiment of a bohemian.

Unglup from life, find beauty in everything, and embrace the vagabond rebel within you.

Lavender is lovely

I am loving all the lavender I am seeing lately; and I do not just mean the flower! It seems to be a very “in” color this summer and I REALLY am happy about that. Color invokes emotions in us, and lavender is a very calming color; the science behind color is so fascinating. It is complicated, but scientists are working hard to break it down in an easier to understand manner.

Our brains are wired to like certain colors and  it all relates to emotion responses when we see color.Color also impacts or ability to create and it also impacts intuition as well. The late Johanne Von Wolfgang Goethe created one of the first color wheels, and highlights in many of his  past written theories, the impressions that color has in a society and the effect it has on an individual as well.

Color. It invokes and emotes in ways we may never understand.Let’s look at some  handmade lavender fashion, shall we ?

Monthly Handmade Style Guide

Soft, flowing cotton;  a natural fiber, and you can make nearly any piece of clothing with it. Layering allows you to wear this breathable fabric all year round . I have been noticing a lot of cotton gauze, fine cotton lawn; both very lightweight fabrics that seem to dance and flow. This is the perfect fabric to be be introducing itself to  summer.

What is cotton you might ask? I know you may be thinking ” I know what cotton is”!!  Well let’s have a little lesson on : How it’s made! Cotton grows  in the warmer climates of the US  like: Texas, Florida, South Carolina ,as well as countries like India, Brazil, Turkey, and more. After cotton has been harvested, the cotton stalks are cut down and chopped.Since hand labor is no longer used in the U.S., the crops are harvested by machine.Textile mills use machines to open bales or modules of cotton. The mixed cotton goes into a carding machine, who’s job it is too straighten the fibers. Then large loom machines weave the fibers into fabric. Whew! That was the short version of how cotton is made:)

Lightweight cotton is going to be HOT this summer; well, actually it is going to be COOL, but look hot. You get the point:) Whether you choose gauzy tops, flowing cotton kaftan’s or breezy harem pants, cotton is definitely the way to go to stay calm, cool, collected and as always: fashionable.
