How you can change your eating habits in one easy step

Nobody likes the word diet, I myself prefer “health goals”.And goals can be difficult to stick to. You know the drill: New Years day is the time you make that commitment to lose a certain amount of weight by choosing your favorite fad diet. Fast forward 3 months later, your cheat day becomes  a daily event and you decide it is just. too. hard.

I am going to help you make one easy change to get yourself a headstart on reaching your health goals. Taking care of your body does not have to be a chore, it can, in fact change your life. By changing your eating habits you can look forward too: better sleep, more energy, lower stress and anxiety levels, and so so much more. Are you ready for your one  easy step?

 Cut your sugar intake. “Why does this matter, Erin”?  Sugar messes with your insulin level,and causes calories to turn into belly fat. It can raise blood pressure which it turn can cause damage over time to the whole circulatory system. It also creates a vicious cycle of intense cravings and effects our mental state by impairing memory and learning skills. Also if you have ever experienced a sugar crash, you may understand the feelings of depression and anxiety; these  come on due to your insulin levels rapidly rising then dropping.

“Many Americans eat about five times the amount of sugar they should consume” says Natasha Janacic-Kahric an associate professor of medicine at Georgetown University Hospital.

Public enemy number one lurks in way more than just candy, such as: salad dressings, sauces, french fries, breads, and so much more. Start off by cutting your intake in half. How can you do this, beyond limiting sweets? Here are some ideas:

1.) Make your own salad dressing

2.)Don’t keep treats  readily available in the house

3.)Choose whole, fresh fruit over juice or processed fruit drinks.

4.)Stop buying processed foods and  read labels

5.) replace unhealthy snacks for filling ones like nuts,skinny pop,almond butter

6.) read labels to see what is in your foods

7.) Drink more water; we often mistake thirst for hunger

These are just a few of the many ways you can cut your sugar intake . It is so important that we teach our kids and peers healthy habits, and the mental and body changes that they can look forward to by investing in these simple steps for a better and healthier future.
